Careers in data are growing fast, and the Digital Information Careers certificate can help you get started. This supportive, beginner-friendly program focuses on data analytics and business intelligence, offering a welcoming entry point into one of today’s fastest-growing tech fields. 

What to expect from the program

Launch your career in data and technology with an eight-month specialization in data analytics and business intelligence that goes beyond technical skills. This program equips you not only with in-demand expertise in data processing, but it also helps you build the essential soft skills you need to succeed in the workplace and become competitive in the job market. 

By completing this program, you will: 

  • Gain proficiency in core data analytics tools like MS ExcelPower BI, and SQL 
  • Build skills in data entry, data modelling, merging, cleaning, and visualization 
  • Develop strong communication, self-advocacy, teamwork, and problem-solving skills crucial for workplace success 
  • Gain confidence through career preparation focused on professionalism and employability 
  • Prepare for the job market with comprehensive training tailored to data industry roles 

Graduate with experience

NorQuest College believes in the importance of on-the-job experience that provides an enriched learning opportunity.

You’ll build a strong portfolio through hands-on projects using real data—showcasing your skills to future employers.

The program includes 200 hours of work-integrated learning in the Edmonton region, with options for remote or flexible placements where available.

WIL placements will vary in scheduling based on the needs of the student and the employer partner.

You will have ongoing support from a supervisor and mentor at the jobsite and will also have additional employment support from a Career Coach and Accessibility Advisor.

Accessible learning environment 

The Digital Information Careers certificate is open to everyone, and designed with accessibility at its core. Rooted in the success of NorQuest’s award winning Autism CanTech! program, the program is thoughtfully designed to support neurodivergent students, while remaining open and inclusive to all. With flexible HyFlex options, sensory-aware supports, small classes, and personalized guidance, it offers anyone an inclusive way to step into a digital career.

Career opportunities

From not for profits to large corporations and government, today’s competitive world requires data-driven decision making. Demand for talent in data analytics and business intelligence is growing across sectors like finance, tech, government, insurance, agriculture, and more.

This program prepares you for entry-level roles in the digital workforce, with average starting salaries between $50,000 and $60,000 per year.

Potential job titles include:

  • Data entry clerk
  • Business intelligence analyst
  • Data storyteller
  • Digital records technician
  • Junior data analyst

The following National Occupational Classifications (NOCs) are often used for job postings in this field:

  • NOC 2282 – User support
  • NOC 1253 – Records management technicians employment outlook
  • NOC 2172 – Database analysts and data administrators
