Program requirements for September 2026

Academic requirements

Language Arts – this requirement can be met with any of the following, or an equivalent course: 

  • 50% in English Language Arts 20-1 
  • 60% in English Language Arts 20-2 
  • 50% in ESLG 1860
  • 65% in ESLG 1898

Mathematics – this requirement can be met with any of the following, or an equivalent course: 

  • 65% in Mathematics 10-C 
  • 65% in MATH 1791 

OR

English language proficiency requirements

For applicants whose first language is not English, proof of English language proficiency (ELP) must be provided prior to admission. ELP must have been completed within 6 months prior to application to the program. Acceptable evidence of ELP may be one of the following test scores:  

  • CLBA: No section score below 7  
  • IELTS Academic: 6.0, no score below 5.5 
  • Duolingo 105 
  • TOEFLT iBT: 71 
  • Cambridge English Language Assessment: 170-179 
  • CELPIP General 7: no section scored below 6 
  • CAEL: 60, no section score below 60 
  • ILAC: Pathway 3.2 
  • NorQuest coursework: Minimum of 80% on ESLS 7000 or 7100, and 80% in ESLW 7000 or 7100; or minimum of 50% in ESLG 1860 and ESLT 1861

This program offers open admission pathways for students seeking to further their education. These pathways allow students to enrol in programs and courses without the need for formal prerequisites or entrance exams.

Practicum/work experience requirements

To be eligible for work experience placement, you must provide a mini portfolio of work and complete a professional interview.

International students: You must get a co-op work permit before beginning the work-integrated learning component of the program. A medical exam may also be needed. See Co-op work permit for more information. 


Progression and graduation

Students must receive a passing grade in each course to progress through the program. To remain in good academic standing, a minimum term grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 is required. 

The Academic Standing Policy and Procedure provide further details on the categories of academic standing, and the consequences and supports available if a student is not in good academic standing. 

A minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 in the program’s courses is required to qualify for graduation.

Honours criteria

  • Overall grade point average (GPA) greater than or equal to 3.7
  • The student must not have failed or repeated any courses

Technology requirements

Tuition fees include third-party software licenses, such as Adobe Creative Cloud, which students will use throughout their program to complete assignments and meet course requirements.
