Advanced Foot Care

Get ready to step into a new area of nursing practice with specialized foot care training. Learn to assess and treat foot conditions, care for high-risk patients, follow sterilization standards, manage records, work with care teams, and understand foot care business basics.

What to expect from the program

This advanced foot care course combines self-paced study and assignments with instructor-led theory and hands-on clinical practice.

Nurses will learn:

  • Assessment and treatment of ailments of the foot
  • How to care for high-risk clients
  • Standards for sterilization protocols
  • Accepted procedures for foot care nurses,
  • Records management
  • Interdisciplinary care
  • Business fundamentals

By the end of this course, you will be prepared to provide foot care in either private practice or in a health-care setting.

Graduate with experience

In this course, nurses gain hands-on foot care experience through 15 hours of in-person lab learning and 15 hours of clinical practicum.

Throughout the course, you will create a professional resource portfolio to support your practicum and your practice after program completion.


Choosing your delivery option

This program offers multiple options—select the format that best fits your life and the way you learn.

Blended and online anytime

A method of course delivery where both online anytime and in-person/real-time instruction are required components.

Online

Classes are delivered through a virtual platform and may include real-time sessions or flexible anytime options, with occasional in-person labs for some programs. 


Additional information

This program is approved by the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as advanced authorization education for Advanced Practice Foot Care. LPNs must receive advanced authorization from CLHA before practicing in this area.

This program provides specialty education for the practitioner to work in their own independent practice or within public health in areas of specialized foot care.
