What to expect from the program
This career-focused, interdisciplinary program in justice studies brings together concepts in Canadian law, ethics, and social systems to help you understand the full picture of justice in action, and equip you with the skills to work in the community, supporting people through law and policy.
Along with a strong foundational knowledge in the criminal justice system, you’ll learn:
- Crisis intervention
- Mental health support and wellness
- Effective writing and communication
- Advocacy
- Strategies for working with diverse Canadians
Whether you’re aiming for a career in policing, enforcement, or social services and community support, you can tailor your learning to your goals, with a selection of electives across areas like Indigenous justice, gender studies, youth work, criminal justice, and corrections theory and practice.
Graduate with experience
NorQuest College believes in the importance of on-the-job experience that provides an enriched learning opportunity.
This program offers an optional 150-hour field experience in an additional term. Interested students who meet the competitive entry requirements will be placed with a justice-related organization in the Edmonton area.

Classes are held in a classroom with face-to-face instruction and regularly scheduled meeting times.
Additional information
The Justice program is open to anyone who meets the admission requirements. However, prospective students should be aware that individuals with police records, criminal convictions, or charges pending may encounter barriers securing employment in some justice-related fields. These individuals also might be unable to take part in site or facilities visits, or in JUST 2300.
Career opportunities
The skills taught in this program will allow graduates to work in a variety of roles in the justice field. There are many careers that a graduate of the Justice diploma program can pursue, including:

- Bylaw officer
- Park warden
- Fish and wildlife peace officer
- Border security officer
- Commercial vehicle inspector
- Support worker
- Probation officer
- Case worker
- Community police/peace officer
- Victim services & advocacy
- Indigenous peace officer
- Private security
- Police officer, RCMP officer
- Corrections officer
Some careers, such as Edmonton Police Service officer, have strict recruitment procedures and specific age or experience requirements. While these roles may not be available immediately after graduation, you’ll receive guidance throughout the program on career pathways and support to help you meet your career goals.
This program prepares you to step confidently into your field while providing the flexibility to continue your education. Credits you earn may be transferable toward additional diplomas, degrees, or certifications—helping you advance your career and increase your earning potential.
Important information for international students
