EAL Intensive

Improve your English for school, work, or daily life. EAL Intensive builds your skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.  With flexible classes from CLB 5 to 8, plus options in academic or health care English, you will finish ready to reach for your goals and feel more confident using English every day. 

CLB 4 courses no longer available

Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 4 courses have been offered in the past, but may not be available each term. If you need a CLB 4 course, contact student.advisors@norquest.ca to confirm availability before applying. 

What to expect from the program

With full-time or part-time options, our 14-week courses fit your schedule and help you strengthen your English skills, whether you are preparing for work or further education. You will learn to:

  • Speak with confidence in different situations
  • Improve your pronunciation, speaking, and grammar
  • Learn more words and common expressions in English
  • Expand your reading and writing skills
  • Use computers to help with learning

Choose courses that match your goals. Along with reading, writing, listening, and speaking classes at different levels, we offer English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to support your academic goals, and English for health care (available in select terms) to help you get ready for work or further study in the health field.

The EAL Intensive program at NorQuest College is certified by Languages Canada, which means it meets high standards for language education. As a student in this program:

  • You will follow NorQuest College’s rules and policies.
  • If you have a concern that cannot be solved at the college, you can contact Languages Canada for help.

Your delivery option

To support your learning experience, this program is offered in the following format:

Blended

Through our blended learning model, you will develop essential digital literacy skills and gain experience studying in an online environment. Blended means that you will study in-person 80% of your class time (4 days per week) and 20% online (1 day per week). 


Career opportunities

English skills are vital for success and advancement in any job or career in Canada. NorQuest’s EAL Intensive program helps you improve your qualifications for the workplace. Community service learning activities are available to help you make contributions to the community and gain work-related skills while studying. 

This program can also help you meet English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements for post-secondary study. 


Important information for international students

This program qualifies for a study permit, but does not qualify for a post-graduate work permit in Canada as of June 24, 2025. Learn more about obtaining your study permit and other important immigration information.
