Content Creator

Turn your creativity into a career. The Content Creator certificate is Alberta’s first post-secondary program designed specifically for social media and digital content creators. In just one year, you’ll learn to craft compelling stories, grow authentic online communities, and transform your passion for social media into a career.

What to expect from the program

This one-year program blends hands-on creative practice with real-world business skills. You’ll grow your skills in storytelling, branding, photography, videography, analytics, and campaign strategy, then put them into action as you plan, produce, and promote content for platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. Experience life as a creator while exploring the entrepreneurial side of the industry.

  • Create multimedia content using storytelling, photography, video, and writing techniques 
  • Develop personal branding, monetization, and entrepreneurial strategies 
  • Apply analytics and data to improve creative decisions and campaign performance 
  • Learn ethical and responsible content creation practices 
  • Graduate with a professional portfolio that showcases your skills to future employers or clients

Graduate with experience

NorQuest College believes in the importance of on-the-job experience that provides an enriched learning opportunity.

You’ll complete a 150-hour work-integrated learning (WIL) field placement in Term 2, applying classroom learning in real-world settings.

Placements may be with content creators, small businesses, non-profits, or marketing teams.

Through this experience, you will:

  • Contribute to your ongoing professional portfolio of digital projects
  • Gain mentorship and industry connections
  • Apply content strategies in live campaigns

You will have ongoing support from a supervisor and mentor at the jobsite and will also have additional employment support from a Career Coach and Accessibility Advisor.

In person

Classes are held in a classroom with face-to-face instruction and regularly scheduled meeting times. 


Career opportunities

Content creation is one of the fastest growing fields worldwide. Graduates are prepared for careers across industries or as independent creators.

Potential job titles include:

  • Content creator / Digital content specialist
  • Social media coordinator / Manager
  • Marketing content creator
  • Digital media producer
  • YouTube / TikTok creator

Many graduates also choose to build independent careers as influencers, entrepreneurs, or freelancers.

The following National Occupational Classifications (NOCs) are often used for job postings in this field:

  • NOC 11202 – Professional Occupations in Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations
  • NOC 10022 – Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations Managers

Important information for international students
