Advance your nursing career with specialized training in orthopedics. This post-diploma program is designed for licensed practical nurses (LPNs) who want to deepen their expertise and step into more specialized roles. You'll learn to apply evidence-based practice for working with orthopedic patients of all ages. Build the expertise you need to open new doors in your nursing career.

What to expect from the program

As the only program of its kind in Alberta—and one of just two across Canada—this self-paced study offers LPNs a unique opportunity to advance their professional skills through specialized study in orthopedic nursing.

Through four theory courses, one lab, and an in-depth clinical practicum, you’ll deepen your understanding of anatomy and physiology as they relate to orthopedics, orthopedic radiology, assessment, and interventions across both adult and pediatric populations, including specialized procedures like casting, bracing, and traction.

You will graduate ready to apply enhanced clinical judgment and evidence-informed practice in orthopedic settings.
