Addictions Recovery Practitioner

Ready to deepen your impact in health and human services? The Addictions Recovery Practitioner post-diploma certificate is designed for graduates of health, human services, or social sciences programs who want to build specialized skills to support individuals experiencing substance use and concurrent disorders.

What to expect from the program

In this program, you'll build on your previous training and expertise to deepen your ability to support individuals facing substance use and concurrent disorders. You'll gain applied skills and best practices in areas like direct client care, advocacy, ethics, and working with families and communities.

You will learn: 

  • Foundational knowledge in substance use and concurrent disorders 
  • Pharmacology for mental health and substance abuse treatment 
  • Recovery practitioner, mental health first aid, and advanced counselling skills 
  • Ethics, advocacy, and navigating health systems 
  • Crisis and suicide intervention 

The program is offered in a flexible format, combining online courses with evening and weekend classroom instruction.

You’ll graduate from this program with 15 hours of community service learning

Blended

A method of course delivery where both online and in-person/real-time instruction are required components. 

In person

Classes are held in a classroom with face-to-face instruction and regularly scheduled meeting times. 


Career opportunities

The Addictions Recovery Practitioner program will provide a viable career pathway for those entering the field of addictions. You'll graduate ready to meet the needs of both clients and employers in a variety of settings, including treatment centres, hospitals and healthcare facilities, community services, non-profit support agencies and more.  

Graduates may pursue further education at the bachelor’s and master’s level, in areas such as social work, addictions, mental health, program administration, management, and research. 

Most employers in this field require excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Recognition of international education to meet employment qualifications will vary based on employer.
