NorQuest College nursing student wins national crown; named education ambassador

NorQuest College second year Practical Nurse student Sherin Lalani wanted a platform from which she could stand with confidence, hone her public speaking skills, and deliver a message she hoped would inspire.

She got it at the Miss Canada Globe Productions' national pageant held in Toronto in August.

“I didn’t have a particular talent. I wasn’t going to go up there and sing and dance because that’s not what I am comfortable with. I believe that my talent is nursing.”

And by using that outlook to her advantage, Lalani was named the pageant’s Canadian Scholarship Ambassador, a position she will hold for a year. The judges were so impressed by her determination and self-worth that they entrusted her with more than a simple crown; they entrusted her with their brand.

Over the next year, Lalani will take the pageant’s image on the road, infusing it with her own brand of education-first messaging.

“First, I want to push myself this year,” she says. “I am graduating this year and that is my main priority, but I also want to inspire young minds in the community. I am thinking about speaking to students about the importance of education, maybe volunteering my time with children.”

After finishing at NorQuest, Lalani plans to one day continue with her education and become a registered nurse. She see this as completely attainable because of the preparation she is currently receiving at the college.

“When I was researching which college to go to, I found that NorQuest has a very high success rate on the national licensing exam. I attended an open house and was very impressed with the instructors and the organization as a whole. And it continues to this day. I am getting the best education that I can possibly receive. I truly believe that. I am ready to graduate and get out there!”When I was researching which college to go to, I found that NorQuest has a very high success rate.
