Social Work

Ready to tackle real world issues

With a NorQuest College education, students are empowered to confidently enter the workforce or further their studies so they can begin a new career, provide a better life for themselves and their families and make a valuable contribution to society.

Jeff Chalifoux can attest to that. With still one year to go before earning his diploma in social work, the 34-year-old new father is already a professional in his field and has plans to remain in school until at least earning his bachelor’s degree.

“My main push into social work came from the people who have helped me – people who stood by my side through thick and thin. And when I walked into NorQuest College I was accepted with open arms. Now I want to give back.”

Chalifoux is a busy man, volunteering to sit on various College and community boards, he is a member of NorQuest’s Student Ambassador program and works for the Edmonton YMCA as the coordinator of child/youth programs.

His ability to take on so much, he says, comes from a personal drive to stay involved and by the work ethic instilled in him by NorQuest’s exceptional programming.

“NorQuest’s social work programming offers you two practicums which is so valuable in the social work profession,” he says. “Other colleges and universities don’t do that – you get one. So when you come from NorQuest, you come with a lot more hands on experience.”

Once finished his diploma program at NorQuest College, Chalifoux plans to attend the University of Calgary to earn his bachelor’s degree.
