NorQuest College provides learners with a complete education that balances strong academic foundations with Indigenous culture. At NorQuest College, we approach working with Indigenous students and communities through Wahkohtowin.
Wahkohtowin is a Cree concept of connectedness. We are focused on relationships and the relationships between everything. As an Indigenous student, you represent not only yourself, but your family, community, and ancestors. NorQuest College is moving forward in a good way to pay respect to everything that represents you.
Our inclusive approach supports our diverse learners. NorQuest prepares graduates for work in a wide range of environments, including Indigenous communities. Our goal is for you to see yourself in the college space, in the classroom, and in the curriculum. The Indigenous Relations & Supports team works to improve student supports, reduce barriers, and make NorQuest College the choice for Indigenous students.
We have an extensive network of services tailored to the needs of Indigenous learners. Our services include Indigenous student support services and Elder support. The Indigenous Student Centre is a place for you to feel welcome. Meet other Indigenous students, have a safe space to practice culture and language, take a break, and relax in this space dedicated to you.
NorQuest’s Indigenous Imperative
NorQuest College is committed to advancing reconciliation, and Indigenization is embedded at the core of the college; it’s an imperative. NorQuest’s Indigenization Strategy, Wahkohtowin – a Cree word that roughly translates to everything is related – and our Indigenous Imperative Roadmap are central to building an institution that makes students feel welcomed, supported, and primed for success. NorQuest works with Indigenous communities to ensure Indigenous knowledge is designed into our institution so that we are better able to build programs that are relevant to the needs of those communities.
A place for learners like you.
NorQuest College has created a welcoming space for Indigenous students to build relationships, learn from knowledge keepers, and help shape the future of the college’s Indigenization initiatives.
NorQuest’s Indigenous Student Centre is a multi-purpose facility for Indigenous students. Located in the Singhmar Centre for Learning, the Indigenous Student Centre hosts ceremonies, counselling sessions with Elders, and Indigenous student advisor academic services, but it's also a social gathering place.
The Open Admissions Pathway removes barriers to entry for students who do not meet existing program admission requirements (due to missing high school courses or English language proficiency requirements).
