Are you new to NorQuest? Would you like support from another student who understands what it is like to study at NorQuest and adjust to life in Canada?
Through the NorQuest International Peer Mentorship Program, new international students can connect with trained student leaders who can share their experiences, answer general questions, and help you feel more connected to the NorQuest community.
Participation is free.
How peer mentorship works
Peer mentorship is now part of the NorQuest International Emerging Leaders Program.
Emerging Leaders are experienced student volunteers who have completed at least one term with the NorQuest International Volunteer Program and have been selected to take on a leadership role. As part of their role, Emerging Leaders mentor new international students and support them in adjusting to campus life, student services, and community involvement.
Peer mentors can help you:
- Learn more about NorQuest services and supports
- Understand campus life and student involvement opportunities
- Build confidence as a new student
- Connect with events, workshops, and volunteer opportunities
- Ask general questions about studying at NorQuest and living in Canada
- Feel more welcomed and supported as you begin your journey
Peer mentors are not academic advisors, immigration advisors, counsellors, or tutors. For specialized support, mentors can help guide you to the appropriate NorQuest service.
Becoming a mentee
As a mentee, you will be matched with a student leader who can provide friendly peer support during your first term.
This program may be a good fit if you:
- Are a new international student at NorQuest
- Want to meet another student who can help you feel more connected
- Have general questions about campus life, student services, or getting involved
- Want to build confidence in your transition to NorQuest and Canada
You may connect with your mentor on campus, virtually, or through messages, depending on availability and the agreed communication method.
What mentees can expect
Your peer mentor can offer encouragement, share student experience, and help you explore ways to get involved at NorQuest.
Mentees are encouraged to:
- Communicate respectfully with their mentor
- Ask general questions about student life and campus involvement
- Attend meetings or check-ins when scheduled
- Let the NorQuest International team know if they need additional support
- Stay open to learning, connecting, and participating in campus life
How to join as a mentee
To request a peer mentor:
- Complete the mentee interest form.
- Tell us about your interests, program, and support needs.
- Wait to be matched with an Emerging Leader mentor, based on mentor availability.
- Connect with your mentor and begin building your NorQuest community.
Mentor matching depends on availability and shared interests. An exact match may not always be possible, but the NorQuest International team will do its best to create meaningful matches.
