Looking for a meaningful way to get involved at NorQuest? Join the NorQuest International Volunteer Program.
As a volunteer, you can support campus events, welcome students, promote programs and services, create content, and help build a stronger student community. Volunteering is also a great way to meet new people, gain Canadian volunteer experience, build your resume, and develop skills that can support your future career.
The NorQuest International Volunteer Program is the first step in the NQI Volunteer Leadership Pathway. After completing at least one term as a volunteer, students may apply for the Emerging Leaders Program.
Who can join?
The NorQuest International Volunteer Program is open to all current NorQuest students.
Students can join at any time during the semester and choose opportunities based on their interests, skills, and availability. No previous volunteer experience is required.
This program may be a good fit if you want to:
- Meet new people and build friendships on campus
- Gain volunteer experience
- Support international students and campus events
- Improve communication, teamwork, and leadership skills
- Get involved in the NorQuest community
- Explore future leadership opportunities
Time commitment & what you’ll gain
Volunteers are encouraged to complete at least 10 hours of volunteering each term, but this is not mandatory. We understand that life can get busy!
Volunteer shifts are flexible and may vary depending on the event or activity. Some shifts may be one hour, while larger events may require longer support. Students can choose shifts that fit their class schedule, work, practicum, family responsibilities, and other commitments.
By volunteering with NorQuest International, you can:
- Gain practical volunteer experience
- Build communication, teamwork, and event support skills
- Meet students from different programs and backgrounds
- Learn more about NorQuest services and campus life
- Strengthen your resume and career readiness
- Receive volunteer swag items from NorQuest International
- Receive a volunteer certificate after completing program requirements for volunteers who complete more than 10 hours per term
- Receive honorarium for volunteers who complete more than 10 hours per term
Community and connection
The NorQuest International Volunteer Program is not only about completing volunteer hours. It is also a way to build communities.
Volunteers may have opportunities to connect with others through volunteer shifts, monthly volunteer mingles, leadership workshops, group activities, group photos, and volunteer communication channels.
These opportunities help students build friendships, stay connected, and feel more involved in the NorQuest community.
Pathway to Emerging Leaders
Students who complete at least one term as an NQI volunteer may apply for the Emerging Leaders Program.
The Emerging Leaders Program is the next step for students who want to take on more responsibility, mentor new international students, support event leadership, and complete a small capstone project.
Students who are not ready for a leadership role are welcome to continue volunteering at the volunteer level.
How to join
To join the NorQuest International Volunteer Program:
- Review the volunteer role descriptions.
- Complete the volunteer application form.
- Attend onboarding or complete required volunteer training.
- Sign up for volunteer shifts that match your interests and availability.
- Start volunteering and building your campus community.
