This program gets you started as a carpenter in Alberta. After you finish, you will know enough about carpentry to take your first-year Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) carpenter exams. If you pass your exams and complete enough hours working as a carpenter with an employer, you will be credited for your first-year carpenter apprenticeship. You will also receive five certifications during your studies.
You must come to class every day and keep an average mark of 65% or higher to stay in the program.

Have a question about the Trades Pathways for Newcomers - Carpentry program?
The Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) - Entrance exam is administered by the Government of Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT). If you have already taken Entrance Exam 2, 4 or 5 for another trade, you do not need to take a new exam.
Learn more and book an exam with Apprenticeship and Industry Training
If you are registering to take the entrance exam, you should select 'Carpenter' as your desired trade. AIT will schedule you for the Entrance Exam Level 2.
Note: it may take up to 6 weeks or more to get an account and schedule an exam. If you do not have time to write the Prior Learning Assessment - Entrance exam before the application period closes, you may take CCDC's program entrance exam.
If you’d like to take the CCDC Entrance exam, select this option in your application to the Trades Pathways for Newcomers program. You will be contacted to schedule an exam if you meet all other requirements and if space in the program remains available.
Note: CCDC’s entrance exam can only be used for entry into CCDC programs. NorQuest will give priority to admit applicants who have passed the AIT exam.
