NorQuest launches initiative to encourage Edmontonians to shop local in 2021

January 11, 2021

EDMONTON – Following a challenging year for independent retailers, an Edmonton college is partnering with small businesses to encourage people to shop local by offering deals and discounts.

Shoppers can discover deals from more than 50 small businesses with the NorQuest YEG Discount Card. By simply purchasing the $10 card, people can start shopping and save up to 25% on food, retail, hospitality, health and wellness, and more while supporting local business. The card can be used digitally and in-person so consumers can shop local in whichever way they feel most comfortable.

“Local businesses are crucial to the region’s economy, but they rely on the support of local consumers to stay afloat,” says Kaisha Marinus, Business Enterprise Specialist at NorQuest College. “It’s a community relationship that results in so many wonderful and unique products and services. Local retailers and shoppers can work together and benefit one another by shopping local, keeping their money in the local economy, and using the YEG Discount Card.”

NorQuest developed the program after recognizing the opportunity to support the local economy while simultaneously securing discounts for students, staff, and the community and developing alternate sources of revenue for the college.

The card is available beginning January 11 at http://www.norquest.ca/deals and can be redeemed through 2021.
