Academic Upgrading|Social Work

Due to a speech impediment and learning disabilities when I was younger, school was a struggle for me. With no education, becoming a renovator/carpenter was the only job I could get that would support my family.

Unfortunately, after suffering a shoulder injury from a car accident, I needed to change careers. That was when I came to NorQuest College. Going back to school has been the most terrifying, challenging and rewarding thing I have ever attempted. With the help of my teachers who always make time to help, and the continuous support from the Centre for Excellence in Learning Supports (CELS) staff, I am succeeding. After completing my upgrading with flying colours, I was inspired to go into the Social Work program with a multicultural focus where I am finishing my first year practicum. With my children as my strength and NorQuest’s CELS as my support system, I hope to someday help others to keep on going.
