Expand your impact and build new skills in the clean technology sector. Learn the fundamentals of solar PV systems and get hands-on training that prepares you for in-demand work installing solar panels—ideal for skilled trades professionals ready to power a greener future.
RegisterWhat is a Microcredential
A series of carefully curated learning activities that provide learners with opportunities to gain specific skills or competencies that are workforce relevant and valued by employers, without enrolling in a credential program. The outcome can be shared digitally and allows employers to easily identify candidates who have mastered a specific skill set for success in their industry.
What to expect from the program
This is an accelerated, hands-on training program in solar PV system installation, developed with industry experts to meet the growing demand for solar installation services. Train quickly for solar panel installation with 65 hours of on-demand online learning and 35 hours of hands-on, in-person work experience.
What you’ll Learn:
By the end of your course work, you will be able to:
- Understand renewable energy fundamentals: Describe the key technologies in solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal energy, along with their benefits and challenges.
- Master solar PV basics: Explain how solar PV systems generate power, identify different equipment types, and understand factors affecting performance.
- Install solar PV systems: Use system documentation to install racking systems, attach PV modules, and apply essential safety practices, including PPE, fall protection, and wiring management.
Practical experience
Gain hands-on experience through real work projects, collaborating with solar contractors or organizations involved in solar energy. You’ll learn safe and effective racking and wiring installation, and work directly with solar panel infrastructure under the guidance of licensed professionals.
Interactive simulations will also be part of your training, featuring decision-making scenarios, video-based safety demonstrations, and toolkit activities. These simulations complement the in-person training, helping you refine your skills in realistic settings.
