What is a Microcredential

A series of carefully curated learning activities that provide learners with opportunities to gain specific skills or competencies that are workforce relevant and valued by employers, without enrolling in a credential program. The outcome can be shared digitally and allows employers to easily identify candidates who have mastered a specific skill set for success in their industry.

What to expect from the program

Build the confidence and skills to support adult English language learners in your community. The English as an Additional Language (EAL) Community Educator microcredential equips tutors and educators with practical tools and strategies to help foundational language learners strengthen their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.

Delivered through a series of skill-based workshops facilitated by Alberta Routes, the training focuses on techniques you can apply immediately in tutoring and community education settings.

Program details

To earn the full microcredential, complete the five required workshops (11 hours) and add complementary workshops to reach at least 25 hours of training. Each workshop is two to three hours long.

After each session, you’ll complete a brief learning check to demonstrate your understanding and earn a digital badge recognizing your progress.

Workshops are offered multiple times throughout the year, including online options, to fit the schedules of busy tutors and community educators across Alberta. Organizations can also request in-person training delivered by an Alberta Routes Advisor.
