Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation Hospitality Institute

Launched at NorQuest College October 1, 2014, the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation Hospitality Institute is a unique partnership supporting our vibrant hospitality and service industry sector.

The Edmonton region is in a period of unprecedented growth and optimism, which brings with it surging demand for skilled employees. With the announcement and construction of several major projects, including the Edmonton Arena District, Edmonton’s hospitality sector is poised for dramatic growth to support the new developments.

The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation Hospitality Institute will answer the demand for skilled workers trained in world-class hospitality and customer-service skills. The institute will develop and deliver a comprehensive suite of hospitality-industry training programs in a broad range of disciplines needed for employment. Each year, hundreds of students will gain the skills and training needed for bright career futures with hospitality employers throughout the region.

The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation’s transformational investment will open doors to a state-of-the-art training facility and provide bursary funding to ensure Albertans have full access to world-class education in customer service, safety, and efficient operations.

Programming

Service Industry Skills Certificate

The Service Industry Skills Certificate is a short term program designed to provide students with knowledge, practices, and certifications that enable them to be job-ready when applying for entry-level work in the hospitality and service industry.

This program is a great fit for individuals who want to work and excel in the hospitality and service sector and for business owners and organizations who want their staff equipped with world-class skills and training.

Student Access Funding

The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation’s generous contribution will open doors to meaningful education and employment opportunities for learners of all backgrounds by funding bursaries to allow students to access world class learning and hospitality sector training. These bursaries will remove barriers to education and provide underemployed and inner-city youth the opportunity to acquire skills, training, and certifications leading to bright career futures in the service sector.

The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation Hospitality Bursary

Award Value: Up to $2,000 each (covering tuition of the Hospitality Institute program)

Number Awarded: Varies

Bursary selection criteria: Awarded on the basis of:

  • Completion of the Service Industry Skills Registration Form (enrolling in the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation Hospitality Institute).
  • Proof of residence within northern Alberta (Red Deer and north).
  • Financial need.
  • Preference will be given to applicants referred by local youth organizations and agencies.
