NorQuest partners with City of Wetaskiwin to launch Wetaskiwin City Academy

February 10, 2021

This innovative partnership will allow the City of Wetaskiwin to build on employee knowledge to enhance service delivery to the local community.

“We’re excited to partner with NorQuest College, and also aspire to support local training providers through this innovative approach,” said Leah Latimer, Manager of Human Resources with the City of Wetaskiwin. “This community-centric training model will provide increased professional development opportunities for City employees—which ultimately strengthens the City’s service delivery.”

Beginning in 2021, the one-year agreement will establish a centralized training system and strategy to provide consistent training for all employees. In addition to clarifying development pathways for employees and managers, NorQuest will support employee training and succession planning, and track progress against training goals.

“The City of Wetaskiwin recognizes the significant value NorQuest College has provided our community over the years, and this partnership will help ensure that the City’s training and development dollars stay in the community as much as possible,” said Sue Howard, City Manager of Wetaskiwin.

Some of the custom offerings will include leadership development, customer service, problem solving, difficult conversations, adaptability, resilience, diversity, psychological safety, Indigenous awareness, proposal writing, and business productivity training. Digital badges and micro-credential certifications may also be earned at the Wetaskiwin City Academy.

“We are delighted to be working with the City of Wetaskiwin to support their development of an empowered and educated workforce,” says Michele Braun, Director of Continuing Education and Partner Solutions at NorQuest College. “This kind of training is critical to cultivating an exceptional and effective workforce, and NorQuest is well-positioned to provide advice, training programs, and support to the City of Wetaskiwin to serve its citizens.”

NorQuest College is a regional comprehensive college with a campus located in Wetaskiwin. The College offers education and training designed to make learners workplace ready, including foundational skills, upskilling and reskilling opportunities, and leadership development. Training will be offered in person and through NorQuest’s online delivery model.
