A Tribute to Jeff Jenkins

Jeff Jenkins in front of the Taj Mahal

Jeff Jenkins was a friend and colleague to many folks at NorQuest.

He was known for his talent as a designer, his love of horses, his humour, his kindness and – most importantly – his ability to find all of the good food that was being served in the college and making sure his friends also got to partake!

Jeff was a traveler, a creator, and an observer. He was the heart behind the Bill Thompson Memorial Award for students at NorQuest College, which in turn honoured another NorQuester. Jeff spoke of how much he admired Bill as a friend and mentor and he wanted to create a legacy for him. He held an annual staff fundraising lunch to fund the scholarship, create community, and to satisfy our foodie desires (as well as his own, of course).

Unfortunately, Jeff was challenged with some health issues that began in 2019.  While he was no longer able to travel or create in the same way, he was working to regain more of his independence and find new ways to enjoy his hobbies when he passed suddenly in January 2023.

To honour Jeff’s impact on the college and his legacy in a permanent way, we are raising funds for a memorial step on the Grand Atrium staircase at NorQuest.  Our fundraising goal is $1,000 and any money raised above this amount will go to Shine Awards for our learners.  Shine awards honour students for creating community in their classrooms; it will be a fitting tribute since Jeff created community among NorQuesters.

Thanks for helping to keep Jeff’s legacy alive.
