Develop foundational computer skills and become proficient using Windows, as well as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database applications to enhance your computer skills and employability.
|HLTH1003 (O)|| Medical Terminology I |
Study the language of medical terminology. Learn to understand and interpret commonly used medical terms, symbols, and abbreviations. Develop your knowledge of rules, prefixes, suffixes, roots, combining forms, body systems, diagnostics, and basic medication classifications. Achieve fluency through practice sessions, quizzes, and exercises.
|HLTH1005|| Computer Applications for Health-Care Professionals |
Gain experience with computerized medical office records and software. Learn to manage medical records, including inputting patient information, scheduling and managing appointments, and billing. Various practice management and EMR software packages will be explored.
|HLTH1006|| Administrative Health-Care Procedures |
Administrative health-care professionals support patients, families, and the health-care team by performing reception, telephone, and clerical tasks, including filing, shift scheduling and payroll, inventory management, and mail handling. You will learn basic clinical skills and explore aspects of workplace safety and infection control.
|HLTH1007|| Practicum for Medical Office Assistants |
This 150-hour practicum will give you hands-on practice as a medical office assistant.
|COMM1001 (O)|| Introduction to Communications |
Explore the fundamentals of communication and interpersonal relationships. Examine effective communication, barriers to effective communication, and specific communication strategies that can improve interactions with others and enhance critical thinking skills. Learn and apply theories related to communication climate, groups, teams, conflict management, and problem solving.
