English Language Proficiency Requirements

If English is your second language, you must provide proof of English language proficiency (ELP) prior to admission. ELP must have been completed within two years prior to application to the program.

Acceptable evidence of ELP may be one of the following test scores:

Note: ELP is a separate requirement from the English academic admission requirement.

Practicum/Work Experience Requirements

The following is not required for admission purposes, but will be required before you attend the practicum. There may be additional costs associated with completing these requirements.

  • Successful completion of all prerequisite courses.
  • The following course is required; a certificate will be awarded upon completion:
  • Clear Police Information Check* dated within 90 days of the collection date specified by the advisor/navigator; must include vulnerable sector search if older than 18 years of age. Specify the purpose of the Police Information Check as “a Student/Instructor Placement with a healthcare organization". More than one Police Information Check may be necessary during the length of your program.
  • Up-to-date immunization record. See the Alberta Health Services (AHS) website for full details. View the immunization requirements (125K pdf) for the program. Submit your form to the Centre for Growth and Harmony.
  • Completion of the AHS Information & Privacy online learning module. Sign the Confidentiality and User Agreement on the last page of the module.
  • Read and sign the HSPNet consent form (390KB pdf).
  • N95 Mask Fit testing as arranged by the program (current within two years).

Submit the required certificates and forms listed above (unless otherwise indicated):

* Online Police Information Checks are not accepted by the college. Contact your local law enforcement agency directly to obtain an official Police Information Check. The existence of a criminal record may prevent clinical placement, program completion, and professional licensure and therefore may affect employment prospects. Prospective students who have a criminal record should discuss the matter with the Program Chair prior to applying for admission. All students will be required throughout their enrolment in the program to self-report any change in criminal convictions or criminal charges to NorQuest College.

Immunization requirements:
  • For regional part-time delivery students, up-to-date immunizations must be completed and a record submitted two weeks prior to entry into the program.
  • For full-time, all other part-time, and online delivery students, up-to-date immunizations must be completed and a record submitted two weeks prior to the first clinical practice.

Progression

Students must attain a pass grade in each course to progress through the program.

Graduation Requirements

To qualify for graduation, students must pass all courses.

Honours Criteria

  • Overall grade point average (GPA) greater than or equal to 3.7
