ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Note: International documents will NOT be accepted to meet the admission requirements. Applicants with international documents will be required to write the NorQuest academic assessment.

  • Must be currently employed as a front-line caregiver in a participating agency

English Language Proficiency Requirements

If English is your second language, you must provide proof of English language proficiency (ELP) prior to admission. ELP must have been completed within two years prior to application to the program.

Acceptable evidence of ELP may be one of the following test scores from NorQuest ELP Band E:

Practicum/Work Experience Requirements

The following is not required for admission purposes, but will be required before you attend the practicum.

  • Successful completion of all prerequisite courses.
  • The following certificates are required. Students are subject to an additional fee at the time of registration to these non-credit courses. A certificate will be awarded upon completion. Submit the certificates as indicated below.
  • Clear Police Information Check dated within 90 days of the collection date specified by the advisor/navigator; must include vulnerable sector search if older than 18 years of age. Should specify the purpose of the Police Information Check as “a Student/Instructor Placement with a healthcare organization". More than one Police Information Check may be necessary during the length of your program, in accordance with practicum requirements. Submit the original to the Office of the Registrar on the main floor of the main NorQuest College building.*
  • Up-to-date immunization record. Download the immunization form and instructions (456K pdf). For a list of program-specific immunization requirements, download the Immunization Requirements for Health Care Aide (34K pdf).** Take your completed immunization form to the NorQuest Health Services office A109. Students may be charged an additional fee for these immunizations.
  • Complete the Alberta Health Services (AHS) Information & Privacy online learning module, and submit the signed Confidentiality and User Agreement on the last page of the module as indicated below.
  • Read the HSPNet information sheet and sign the appropriate HSPNet consent form for Health Care Aide. Submit the signed form as indicated below.
  • N95 Mask Fit testing as arranged by the program and done by NorQuest Health Services; current within two years.

Submit required certificates and forms listed above (unless otherwise indicated) using one of the following methods:

  • by email to ClientServRep_Health@NorQuest.ca,
  • by fax to 780.644.6529, or
  • to the customer service representative in your program area (Room A630, B102 or E220).

*Note: Internet (online) Police Information Checks are not accepted by the college. Contact your local law enforcement agency directly to obtain an official Police Information Check. The existence of a criminal record may prevent clinical placement, program completion, and professional licensure and therefore may affect employment prospects. Prospective students who have a criminal record should discuss the matter with the Program Chair prior to applying for admission.

**Note: Immunization requirements:
  • For regional part-time delivery students, up-to-date immunizations must be completed and a record submitted two weeks prior to entry into the program.
  • For full-time, all other part-time, and online delivery students, up-to-date immunizations must be completed and a record submitted two weeks prior to the first clinical practice.

Progression

Students must attain a pass grade in each course to progress through the program.

Graduation Requirements

To qualify for graduation, students must pass all courses.

Honours Criteria

  • Overall grade point average (GPA) greater than or equal to 3.7
  • The student must not have failed or repeated any courses
