ANPH1003 | Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology for MDRT In this course, students will study the organization of the human body as it relates to surgical procedures and devices. Students will learn introductory medical terminology and introductory microbiology necessary to perform the tasks of a medical device reprocessing technician (MDRT). As members of the health-care team, MDRTs play a vital role in providing support to all patient-care services in hospitals and other clinical settings.

COMM1001 (O) | Introduction to Communications Explore the fundamentals of communication and interpersonal relationships. Examine effective communication, barriers to effective communication, and specific communication strategies that can improve interactions with others and enhance critical thinking skills. Learn and apply theories related to communication climate, groups, teams, conflict management, and problem solving.

HLTH1103 | Surgical Instrument Processing I This course equips students to perform the core skills of an MDRT. Students will develop the skills necessary to perform technical functions with surgical instruments and medical equipment. This course focuses on equipment identification and classification, decontamination, and assembly.

HLTH1101 | Surgical Instrument Processing II This course equips students with the necessary knowledge and processes to perform the core skills of a Medical Device Reprocessing Technician (MDRT). Students will develop the skills necessary to sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment. This course focusses on sterilization, storage, and professional responsibilities.

Term 2 - 12 weeks | ||
HLTH1104 | Practicum for MDRT In this practicum course, students will gain work experience through 400 hours of experience as a MDRT. The experience gained in this course prepares students to write the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) exam to qualify for certification.
Prerequisites: HLTH 1100, HLTH 1101, ANPH 1003, and COMM 1001
