Program Status Definitions
Open: Program is currently accepting applications.
Limited: Program is accepting applications and reserving seats for select student populations. Applications will be considered for a waitlist.
Waitlist: Program is currently at capacity and accepting applications for a waitlist. If you are on the waitlist, seats often become available one week prior to the start of the term and during the first week of classes, and can be filled by students who are able to attend on short notice. Check your MyMail regularly so you don’t miss an opportunity.

Part-time Delivery (Edmonton, Drayton Valley, and Wetaskiwin)

  • The part-time programs can be completed in three terms.
  • Part-time in-person evening and weekend classes Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 pm, and some Saturdays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
  • Instructor-led classes, labs, and practicum
  • Includes three practicums, including 240 hours of direct instructor-supported clinical practice and 80 hours of indirect instructor-supported clinical

Part-time Online Delivery

  • All learning material is delivered online and through an accompanying textbook
  • The online program can be completed in three terms. Each course requires active participation; assignments and exams must be completed by certain dates.
  • Instructor assistance is available by email
  • Course exams are completed online
  • Attendance is mandatory in labs and workshops at the Edmonton campus only, which may require students to travel
  • Includes three practicums within the greater Edmonton area or in a facility near your geographic location outside of the greater Edmonton area. This will include 240 hours of instructor-led practicum and 80 hours of buddied practicum with indirect instructor supervision.
  • Site visits, supervision, and evaluation are done by a NorQuest instructor

Workplace Delivery

Are you currently working as a health care aide, or in an equivalent care-giving position, and want to become certified? The workplace delivery can be taken over eight months, allowing you to study at home and have your skills assessed by a NorQuest College trained tutor at your worksite. During the program, you will need to work 200 hours in a client care role to meet program requirements. Contact hca.workplace@norquest.ca to find out if your facility offers this option.

  • This option is offered throughout Alberta in partnership with continuing care and home care employers
  • Paced study is combined with practice opportunities with your employer and agency tutor
  • Students have eight months to complete the program
  • Students are able to combine work and school by studying at home and practicing their skills at work
  • Students interested in this program must consult their employer
