From Student to Leader: Law Andrews’ Inspiring Journey at NorQuest College
October 30, 2025
Law Andrews began his academic journey in January 2023, enrolling in Business Administration through open studies at NorQuest College. What started as a pursuit of education quickly evolved into a transformative experience that shaped his personal and professional path.
From the outset, Law chose to be more than just a student: he became an active contributor to the NorQuest community. In his first term, he ran for a seat on SANQC’s Students’ Council and became a regular presence at the Indigenous Students Centre. Though he wasn’t elected that term, these spaces helped him build connections and find purpose. He leaned into volunteerism, crafting lanyards sold at The Core, with proceeds supporting the Indigenous Students Centre.
Law’s resilience shone through as he ran again for Students’ Council in the Fall term. Despite another loss, he remained undeterred. In Winter 2024, on his third attempt, Law’s persistence paid off: he was appointed to both Students’ Council and NorQuest’s Board of Governors, which was a powerful recognition of his leadership and dedication.
His final term brought new horizons. Law traveled to Cuba with fellow NorQuest students, marking his first time outside Canada and only his second time on a plane (the first being a trip to Victoria, also through NorQuest). These experiences broadened his worldview and deepened his appreciation for cultural diversity.
In Summer 2025, Law joined NorQuest’s Talent Acquisition team through the student co-op facilitated by the Work Integrated Learning & Career Education team, gaining hands-on experience in recruitment and onboarding. His contributions helped welcome new employees and enriched his understanding of workplace dynamics.
With his diploma in hand and a wealth of experiences behind him, Law’s journey came full circle. He transitioned from student to staff, now serving as an Indigenous Student Advisor in miyo-pimâtisiwin Centre. Looking ahead, Law is passionate about using the skills and knowledge he’s gained to give back to the communities that supported him, bringing his journey full circle and continuing the cycle of empowerment and growth.
