Facilitator spotlight

Janelle Therien is a Métis educator with a formal background in elementary education (BEd) and educational technology (MET). Equity in accessing, navigating, and completing education for learners facing barriers, particularly Indigenous learners, is always a key consideration in her work. A growing understanding of the tangible and intangible impacts of systemic barriers has also made her a champion for Indigenous faculty, colleagues, and allies. Recently, she has been exploring how these ideas connect to Indigenous perspectives, knowledge, and experiences that are marginalized in colonial research practices, acknowledging the harms associated with certain methodologies and research outputs while seeking better ways forward.
