Align and Confirm: Share your thoughts on the next steps for Edmonton’s 2SLGBTQIA+ Safe Spaces Action Plan

You’re invited to join a community conversation on the next steps for the City of Edmonton’s draft 2SLGBTQIA+ Safe Spaces Action Plan. 

NorQuest Pride is hosting a discussion (in-person and online) where we’ll review what’s in the draft Action Plan and make sure it reflects the ideas and experiences shared by 2SLGBTQIA+ people in our community. The City reached out to 2SLGBTQIA+ people in May and June 2025 to ask how to make Edmonton a safer and more welcoming place. The Beyond Belonging Project Team gathered those ideas, organized them into themes, and used them to create a draft Action Plan. Now, the City is checking back in with us to confirm they’ve heard the community accurately. 

Here’s what to expect during the session: 

• You’ll have a chance to review and share feedback on the draft actions in the plan 
• You’ll be invited to answer a few optional questions about how you identify 
• An honorarium of $50 will be provided for your participation 
• Snacks will be provided 
• There are 20 spaces available for this conversation 

What is Beyond Belonging: Building a 2SLGBTQIA+ Safe Spaces Action Plan? 

The City of Edmonton is creating a plan to improve safety, inclusion, and belonging for 2SLGBTQIA+ people. This project is called Beyond Belonging and started with community conversations in January 2025, though we recognize many groups have been leading this work for years. The next step, called Align and Confirm, is about checking back with communities to ensure the draft plan truly reflects the lived realities of 2SLGBTQIA+ life in Edmonton today. 

We hope to emphasize the voices of LGBTQIA+ folx who may identify with one or more racialized ethnocultural communities. However, this is not a necessity for participating in the discussion.
