National Indigenous Peoples Day

NorQuest is incredibly grateful for the Indigenous culture, teachings, and wisdom that enriches our college. On National Indigenous Peoples Day, we encourage all students and staff to participate in the activities happening around the campus to honour Indigenous cultural teachings and ceremonies.  

Agenda for the day:  

  • 9:00 am – Welcoming message  
  • 9:00 am starting the traditional scraping of moose hide in the Singhmar Centre Indigenous Student Centre with Jessica Sanderson-Barry.  
  • 10:00 am – Star stories with George Desjarlais in the Indigenous Student Centre 
  • 12:00 – 1:00 pm – Enjoy stew and bannock for lunch in the Atrium while listening to traditional drummers and watching Metis Jiggers and Powwow Dancers 
  • 1:30 – 3:00 pm – Take part in Inuk Games 
  • All day – Rupertsland Institute Metis art exhibit in the Singhmar Centre Atrium 

The traditional teachings on scaping moose hide will continue throughout the day. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing.
