Indigenous Career Centre (ICC)

About the ICC

Building together: Indigenous talent, in-demand jobs

Since our inception, ICC has had a grand vision. We recognized the immense potential of tapping into Indigenous talent to meet workforce needs. Our journey from a small pilot project to a thriving employment center supporting thousands of job seekers and cultivating partnerships with values aligned employers is a testament to our determination and strong commitment to our mission and values.

As we serve Indigenous job seekers, the ICC will continue to build new relationships with employers and remain a powerful ally to industry partners seeking to take tangible action towards economic reconciliation.

From humble beginnings to success

When we first opened our doors in 2015, we aimed to support 300 job seekers, but then over 1500 people expressed interest. We knew that we had to scale up, and quickly. We rose to that challenge, and by 2024, we expanded our capacity to support over 6000 job seekers, and the tally keeps growing.

The secret to our growth?

Since the beginning, we've focused on building reciprocal partnerships with local employers to meet the needs of both job seekers and businesses. Secondly, we are always adapting and adjusting our services to meet labour market fluctuations. We've navigated shifts in the Alberta workforce, a pandemic, employer needs, and job seeker demographics. We have established ourselves as a leader in this regard and are proud of the remarkable progress we've made since 2015.

Our approach

The ICC is more than an online job portal. Every Indigenous job seeker registered with the ICC receives full employment support from a qualified career coach.  Additionally, all industry partnerships with the ICC are guided by the principles of respect, reciprocity, responsibility, and relationship to ensure sustainable and psychologically safe workspaces.

By balancing corporate, job seeker, and cultural needs, the ICC can respond to Alberta’s growth and skilled workforce shortages while generating improved social and economic outcomes for Indigenous peoples and communities.
