Graduation, Convocation, Credential – what do these words mean?

Graduation refers to the successful completion of your program requirements. You will receive a Certificate or a Diploma from NorQuest College.

Convocation is a formal ceremony to recognize the completion of your hard work. Your family and friends are welcome to attend and celebrate your success.

Credential is the certificate or diploma confirming you have the educational standards, knowledge and skills.

Graduate records

A credential for a program is conferred upon a student once, even if the student completes the program requirements more than one time. The credential will be notated on the official transcript as the earliest program completion only.

Student checklist

Ensure you will be able to graduate and attend Convocation. It is your responsibility to complete these steps.

1. Apply to graduate

If you will complete all your certificate or diploma requirements before August 31, 2024, you are eligible to graduate and attend Convocation. Programs that start after February 11, 2024 will have this process completed by the Office of the Registrar.

To apply to graduate:

  1. Log in to your MyQuest account.

  2. Choose "Apply for Graduation".
  3. Submit your application before February 11, 2024.
  4. Once submitted, the Office of the Registrar will assess your courses to determine whether you have met the program requirements to receive your credential.
  5. The Office of the Registrar will email your MyMail address about the status of your application (and advise you of any further action needed). If you have not received a response within two weeks of your application, email enrolment@norquest.ca from your MyMail account.

To attend Convocation, you must be eligible to complete your program by August 31, 2024, and apply to graduate by February 11, 2024. If you apply after this deadline, you will miss the opportunity to attend Convocation 2024. This deadline will not be extended. Programs that start after February 11, 2024 will have this process completed by the Office of the Registrar.

To receive your credential within one month of the end of your last term of study (based on successful completion of your program), your deadline to apply to graduate is February 11, 2024

The Office of the Registrar will assess your program completion only if you have applied to graduate through your MyQuest account. Your application to graduate is limited to the academic year in which you apply. If you are not successful in achieving your credential, you must apply to graduate again when eligible.

If you will not be attending Convocation, you must still apply to graduate to receive your credential.

2. Update your address

We will mail your parchment to the address on your student record. Ensure your address is up to date in your MyQuest account. A digital parchment will also be automatically sent to you and accessible through MyCreds.

3. Update your preferred name

We will use your preferred name in the 2023-2024 Convocation list and to announce you at Convocation. Your legal name will be used on your credential.

4. Register to attend Convocation

If you are on track to graduate, we will email the Convocation registration package to your MyMail account. You can also check for your name on the 2023-24 Convocation list (available mid-March 2024).

The email includes a link to the Gaspard website (Build-a-Grad) where you rent your gown. Once your order has been processed and paid, you are registered to attend Convocation!
