AlertAware emergency notification system

NorQuest College uses AlertAware, a modern emergency communication system that quickly sends important safety information to students, employees, and visitors.

AlertAware helps keep you informed during emergencies or significant incidents that may affect campus safety or operations.

Stay informed during emergencies — set up AlertAware today.

1. Register for AlertAware

Sign up for AlertAware

2. Check your email & activate your account

After registering, check your NorQuest email and click “Complete Account Setup.”

3. Download the app & enable alerts

Install AlertAware Mobile, sign in, and allow:

  1. Push notifications
  2. Critical alerts (recommended)

You must complete registration and email activation before you can receive alerts.

Need help getting started?

  • Registration is required before you can use the app
  • Account activation is completed through your NorQuest email
  • Notifications must be enabled to receive alerts
  • Location access is optional and used only for certain features

How AlertAware works

During an emergency, AlertAware sends notifications directly to your device.

Notifications are delivered primarily through:

  • Mobile app push notifications

Additional channels (such as email, SMS, or phone calls) may be used depending on system configuration.

Alerts may:

  • Provide immediate safety instructions
  • Direct you to additional information
  • Request a response or status update

Who should use AlertAware

AlertAware is available to:

  • Students
  • Employees

All users are strongly encouraged to install the app and enable notifications to receive critical safety alerts.

What to expect

When an alert is issued:

  • You will receive a notification on your device
  • Critical alerts may override silent mode (if enabled)
  • Tap the notification to view full details and instructions
  • Past alerts can be viewed in the app’s message history

System testing

AlertAware is tested at least twice per year.

Test messages will always be clearly identified as TEST notifications.

Troubleshooting

If you are not receiving alerts:

  • Confirm you completed registration and email activation
  • Ensure you are logged into the app
  • Check that push notifications are enabled on your device
  • Verify that critical alerts are allowed in your device settings

Important notes

  • Alerts are sent on a best-effort basis
  • Delivery may depend on cellular, internet, or email services
  • Delays may occur during network disruptions
  • You are responsible for keeping your contact information up to date
  • AlertAware is one component of the College’s overall emergency communication approach

Privacy (FOIP)

Your personal information is:

  • Used only for emergency and urgent communications
  • Kept secure and not shared outside authorized use

FOIP Statement

The personal information collected through AlertAware is collected under the authority of:

  • Section 65 of the Post-secondary Learning Act and
  • Section 33(c) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP)

This information is used to provide notifications of an urgent or emergency nature related to the safety, security, or operations of the College.
