International Peer Mentorship Program

Moving to a new country to study can bring many uncertainties. The International Peer Mentorship Program pairs new international students with experienced NorQuest College students, allowing both to develop skills and enriching, meaningful relationships.

How does the program work?

New international students, interested in participating in the program, will be matched with a peer mentor. We will coordinate the process of finding mentors for new international students based on their program and mutual interests.

Throughout each term peer mentors offer social support, assistance, and guidance, through virtual and in-person one-on-one meetings, and social activities. They share personal experiences with new international students (peer mentees) to help with their transition to college.

What are the benefits?

A peer mentor can help facilitate a mentee’s integration into a new community, and contribute to their academic performance by removing socio-cultural barriers arising in their learning process.

Peer mentorship helps mentors reflect on their past experiences, develop their interpersonal skills (which contributes to career advancement), and lead from where they are.

Peer mentorship allows mentors and mentees to build on life skills and develop friendships.

I want to be mentored. How can I join?

We encourage new international students in their first term of college to join the program as mentees. We are now recruiting mentees for fall term. The deadline to apply is September 30, 2020.
