What is the difference between a scholarship, bursary, and award?

A scholarship refers to a monetary amount given to a student in recognition of outstanding academic achievement.

A bursary is a monetary amount received based on financial need.

An award is an umbrella term that consists of scholarships and bursaries as well as opportunities that require the demonstration of financial need, academic excellence, community involvement, leadership skills, or a combination thereof.

What are opportunities?

The NorQuest College Award System uses the term "opportunities" when referring to scholarships, bursaries and awards.

How do I see which awards I am eligible for?

What are recommended opportunities?

In some cases, individual awards require additional information that is not on the general application. Review the suggested list of these Recommended Opportunities and provide any information requested to receive further consideration for those awards.

Which questions should I complete?

In addition to completing the required fields (indicated with an *), you are encouraged to complete the application fully to maximize award consideration.

Do award reviewers care about spelling and grammar in the essay sections?

Yes, correct spelling and grammar are important. Your ideas are easier to convey and understand when written clearly, and you want to show the reviewers that you took the time to produce a quality piece of writing.

As an international student, you are eligible for all NorQuest College awards, except those that require Canadian citizenship or permanent residency. As long as you meet all the eligibility criteria you will be considered for awards.

How do I know if my application has been submitted?

NorQuest College students who submit an application will see a "submitted" status on their My Applications tab within the award system. Students who have an incomplete General Application will be directed there upon login until complete.

Follow the instructions as prompted to review the scholarship offer and click “Accept” under the appropriate award.
