All great businesses start with an idea. The journey of an entrepreneur requires drive, patience, and fortitude to transform an idea into a sustainable business model. In just 12 short weeks (36 hours), you will gain the skills, knowledge, and confidence to turn your business idea into reality!

What is Completion certificate

Ministry-approved teaching and learning activities that provide practical training for rapid entry into frontline jobs but do not culminate in a parchment/credential.

What to expect from the program

Learn what it means to take on the visionary role of an entrepreneur. In this program, you will gain skills to develop a business and marketing plan that you can directly apply to your business idea or incorporate into a professional pitch. You will also gain an understanding of your finances and learn how to talk about financial reporting. Lastly, you will learn practical ways to research and study the marketplace to grow confidence in your business decisions.

Africa Centre Entrepreneurship Empowerment Program, in partnership with NorQuest College, has designed this program to help validate your business idea and make it actionable. Africa Centre Entrepreneurship Empowerment Program is Africa Centre’s Entrepreneurial Support initiative that aims to create opportunities to build a larger business community in Alberta by removing systematic barriers for aspiring Black entrepreneurs.

Beyond business skills, Idealization to Creation outlines critical areas of an inclusive and safe workplace, so that you can demonstrate inclusive leadership as a business owner. To be an inclusive leader means to build climates of belonging and recognize the unique contributions of others. Not only is inclusive leadership an asset, but it is becoming an essential skill in today’s business world.
 

How We Do It

Taught by experienced local professionals, Idealization to Creation is designed to teach you the skills and framework that businesses are using today. The course content is highly focused to include only specific content you need to be a successful entrepreneur.
Course material is offered in a virtual format with weekly instructor-led sessions as well as self-directed learning. There is a high degree of interaction through the virtual classroom to encourage practice with real scenarios.

  • conduct feasibility exercises for your business idea
  • outline the basic format for your business plan
  • apply marketing strategies to your new business
  • develop a marketing plan
  • explain financial terms and concepts related to managing a business
  • create a basic balance sheet for your business idea
  • deliver a successful pitch for your business concept
