ESL Preparation for Health Care Aide – Communication with Clients and Families - BHCA 1204

This course focuses on the interpersonal, intercultural, and essential skills required for learners to effectively communicate with clients and their families in their role as health care aides (HCAs). Learners will acquire the language and communication skills relevant to a variety of communication tasks required of HCAs such as setting clients at ease, expressing empathy, gathering information, encouraging cooperation, explaining, teaching, and more. They will listen to, role-play, and evaluate interactions. As well, they will continue to develop the document use, numeracy, thinking, and communication essential skills required of HCAs.
