You must complete 10 courses to graduate. HLTH 1200 must be taken first, and all courses must be successfully completed prior to taking HLTH 1208. Other courses may be taken in any order.

|HLTH1200|| Introduction to Leadership & Management |
This course provides students with knowledge related to the fundamentals of leadership and management, emphasizing leadership styles, power, self-reflection, decision making, communication styles, and the components of effective leadership.
|COMM1012|| Leadership: Communication, Collaboration and Relationship Building |
This course explores the fundamentals of communication and interpersonal relationships. Students will examine concepts related to effective communication, barriers to effective communication, and specific communication strategies that can improve interactions with others and enhance critical-thinking skills that support relationship building. They will learn and apply concepts related to communication, climate, groups, teams, conflict management, and problem solving. The focus will be on exploring and enhancing emotional intelligence in relation to personal and social competence.
|HLTH1201|| Fundamentals of Inclusive Leadership |
This course further builds on the leadership principles related to intercultural awareness, engagement, and managing family-client dynamics. Canada’s ever-increasing multicultural population requires individuals in leadership roles to visualize leadership in the context of a globalized, diverse, and multicultural society.
|HLTH1202|| Organizational Behaviour and Leadership |
This course explores the key components of organizational behaviour in health care and focuses on organizational environment and structure, and the interaction between individuals and groups within the organization. Topics will include theories of perception and motivation, understanding organizational structure and culture, and leading change.
|HLTH1203|| Business Fundamentals |
This course introduces the fundamental tools and concepts related to financial and human resource management in health-care organizations. Students will learn the need to understand the cost of doing business and will acquire the skills to read, analyze, and interpret financial information related to budgeting, funding, and accounting. They will also gain an understanding of the principles of change and basic project management.
|HLTH1204|| Principles of Adult Education |
This course focuses on preparing students for leadership roles, where they will need to understand and apply the principles of adult education and teaching and learning strategies when assessing needs and developing educational materials and resources for adult learners. Students will develop knowledge and skills related to facilitation and the creation of an optimal learning environment for adult learners.
|HLTH1205|| Team Management |
This course explores the principles of management related to team dynamics and team building within an interdisciplinary team environment. The learner will explore team roles and responsibilities in relation to delegation, conflict resolution, union regulations, and scopes of practice that incorporate the importance of an evaluative feedback process.
|HLTH1206|| Strategic Planning in Health Care |
The focus of this course will be strategic organizational planning, including the key concepts of strategic thinking, creative strategizing, and the implementation and evaluation of a strategy. Current and future trends in strategic-planning initiatives in complex health-care organizations will be explored.
|HLTH1207|| Health Care Quality, Safety, and Innovation |
In this course, students will develop the abilities necessary to lead the implementation and evaluation of quality safety programs within a variety of settings. The role of leaders and advanced governance principles for quality and safety will be examined in relation to the promotion of holistic, client-centred care and the associated barriers. Students will acquire the skills to build a culture of high performance, innovation, reform, and safety.
|HLTH1208|| Capstone Project |
The capstone project is designed to be a culmination of a student’s overall leadership coursework. It provides the student with the opportunity to integrate knowledge and concepts learned during the program into a project that will showcase their leadership skills and their impact on individuals or organizations in a chosen environment. Topics may be taken from the student’s personal experience, but can also focus on specific interests in health care, education, community, or interprofessional organizations. This project promotes the exploration of personal leadership styles and skills through assessment and critique of the student’s chosen project.
