PROGRAM AT A GLANCE
Effective academic year 2019/2020, the Youth in Transition program is now called Upgrading for ESL Youth.
Designed to increase academic and personal communication skills for English as a second language youth, ages 17–25, this program offers small class sizes and a supportive learning environment and will prepare you for further post-secondary programs. You will explore interesting themes throughout the program, including college life, Canadian history and government, healthy living, environmental stewardship, career planning, and connecting within the community.
This program is designed for ESL youth that require some upgrading in order to attain their ultimate goal of further post-secondary study at a college or university. If you were born outside of Canada but have attended a Canadian high school, this program may work well for you.
You can expect to experience integrative lessons planned around interesting themes such as college life, Canadian history and government, healthy living, environmental stewardship, career planning, and making connections within the community. Field trips in and around Edmonton are used to enhance your experience and maximize your learning.
There are no tuition fees for students that qualify for this program. Bus passes and many program supplies are also provided. Flexible intakes (September, November, January, and March), allow you to choose the start date that works best for you.
