Health & Dental Insurance
The Health and Dental Plan was approved by student referendum. As a result, participation in the plan is now mandatory for students enrolled at NorQuest College, through their membership in the Students’ Association. The Plan provides protection and security for eligible students, minimizing the effects of injury or ailments. The cost of the Plan is included in institutional fees provided the student meets all of the eligibility enrolment criteria outlined below.
All students who are
- eligible full-time students,
- self-funded students (including students receiving student loans)
- taking programs at NorQuest College's Edmonton downtown and regional campuses
- who have paid Students' Association fees
- who are registered in an eligible program
- residing in Canada; and
- under the age of 70
are automatically enrolled in the mandatory Students’ Association health and dental plans offered by the NorQuest Students' Association.
Students starting in May will not be eligible for the Health and Dental Plan. If students starting in May enroll in the fall term, they will be assessed fees at that time.
If you are unsure about whether or not you are eligible for the Student Health and Dental Plan, contact the SANQC Student Benefits Plan Office prior to any applicable deadlines.
Students who have other coverage may choose to opt out of the coverage provided.

Adding Family Members to Health and Dental Plans
Students wanting to add on family members can do so by paying additional fees directly to the Students’ Association.
The student understands that in order to receive coverage for an eligible spouse or dependent the appropriate fee must be paid. The student agrees to pay the appropriate fees for the coverage requested prior to the applicable deadline.
Opting Out of Health and Dental Plans
Each plan has an annual premium; therefore, opting out of either the health plan or dental plan must be done prior to the specified deadline and must be accompanied by proof of existing insurance.
Online opt-out can be completed by visiting www.mystudentplan.ca. Deadlines are posted on this website.
If a student wishes to decline the Student Health and/or Dental Plan(s) coverage, comparable health and/or dental coverage must be presently provided for the student under another insurance plan. The student understands that he or she would have been able to claim under this existing insurance as well as under the Student Health and/or Dental Plan(s), thereby increasing coverage.
The opt-out deadline dates are established by the Students’ Association. You will not be able to opt-out of coverage at any other point during the school year.
The deadline to opt out of the health and dental plans is on the last day for payment of term fees. See the Academic Schedule for exact dates. Add-on/Opt-out deadline for the 2016/2017 academic year is September 8 at 4:00 p.m.
For example, if your program starts in September, you must opt-out prior to the end of the fall deadline. The same rule applies for adding additional family members. NO EXCEPTIONS will be made if the deadline is missed. It is the student’s responsibility to pay the plan fees, should they miss the applicable opt-out deadline.
Students Not Eligible for the Health and Dental Plans
- Part-time students, grant-funded students and auditing students are not eligible to participate in the health and dental plans.
- The health and dental plan is not offered to any students who begin studies in the spring term; however, students will automatically be enrolled in the plan for the Fall term if they meet the requirements.
