Program Overview
Designed for internationally educated nurses, Introduction to Communication and Culture for Nursing (ICCN) offers ESL instruction based entirely on language used in nursing. You will focus on fundamentals such as medical terminology, therapeutic communication, and intercultural communication. ICCN is designed to prepare you for success in both the Practical Nurse Diploma for Internationally Educated Nurses (PNDIEN) program and the health-care workplace.
Career Potential
Graduates will have the language communication skills and confidence to achieve further education in the health-care field.
Transferability
Upon successful completion of this program and with CLB 6/7 language benchmarks, internationally educated nurses will meet the language requirement for entrance into the Practical Nurse Diploma for Internationally Educated Nurses program.
Admission Requirements (2011-2012)
- CLB 5/6 with an emphasis on the 6s, no more than two scores of 5, and no score lower than 5; or IELTS overall band of 5 with no score lower than 5; or TOEFL iBT score of 55 or higher
- Birth certificate and picture identification with your legal name or a passport
- A graduate of a recognized non-English-speaking nursing program (An official transcript from your nursing program sent directly to NorQuest College from the issuing institution is required.)
OR
A graduate of a recognized nursing program outside of Canada who has received a conditional/provisional acceptance into a Practical Nurse program (A letter of admission from a recognized public post-secondary Canadian institution is required.)
Admission Requirements (2012-2013)
- CLB 5/6 with an emphasis on the 6s, no more than two scores of 5, and no score lower than 5; or IELTS overall band of 5.5, with no score lower than 5; or TOEFL iBT score of 65 or higher, with no score lower than 15 in reading and listening, 18 in speaking, and 17 in writing.
- A graduate of a recognized non-English-speaking nursing program (An official transcript from your nursing program sent directly to NorQuest College from the issuing institution is required.)
OR
A graduate of a recognized health-related or medical program outside of Canada (An official transcript from your program sent directly to NorQuest College from the issuing institution is required.)
Progression
Students must attain a pass grade to progress through the program.
