Digital Graphics Communications

Program Overview

Brokered from SAIT Polytechnic, this program will provide you with the fundamental skills to be employed in the graphic arts, printing, publishing, and other media-related industries. You will learn pre-press techniques including typesetting, page layout, graphic design, and electronic image manipulations. You will also participate in actual press and other digital imaging operations in addition to binding and finishing functions. This program includes training in interpersonal communications and service courses including management and leadership skills.

Career Potential

Graduates of the program will find employment with commercial printers, private industrial printing plants, paper and ink wholesalers, printing equipment distributors, sales, advertising agencies, and other graphic arts companies. Typical positions include:

  • Customer service representative
  • Sales
  • Estimator
  • Pre-flight operator
  • Press operator
  • Post-press finisher

Admission Requirements

  • 50% in English 30-2 or equivalency
  • 50% in Applied Math 20 or Math 24
  • Or GED
  • Health/fitness status questionnaire
  • Program interview

English Language Proficiency

You must provide proof of English language proficiency (ELP) prior to admission if English is your second language. Acceptable evidence of ELP may be one of the following:

  • Successful completion of three years of full-time instruction in the English language, with a minimum of 12 hours instruction per week; OR
  • Successful completion of assessment testing in one of the following:
    • CLBA with a score of 8 in all sections
    • TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) score 80 (no section score below 20)
    • IELTS 6.0 (no band scores below 6.0)
    • CAEL 60 (no subtest below 60)

Progression

Students must attain a term GPA of 2.0 or better (a letter grade of C) in each semester to progress through the program. To qualify for graduation, students must pass all courses and attain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better.

Credential

After successfully completing this program, graduates will be awarded a SAIT Polytechnic/NorQuest Digital Graphics Communications diploma.
