Program Overview

Prep for Pharmacy Technician is a 16-week program designed to prepare you for the Pharmacy Technician diploma program. Courses include at least two of the four prerequisites required for the Pharmacy Technician program (English Language Arts 30-1/030-1 or English Language Arts 30-2/030-2, Biology 30/030, Applied Mathematics 30/030 or Pure Mathematics 30/030, and Chemistry 30/030), Interpersonal Communications for Health-Care Professions, and related employability skills.

Career Potential

Alberta Employment, Immigration and Industry is forecasting above-average demand for pharmacy technicians. Pharmacy Technician diploma program graduates can apply for jobs in both community and hospital pharmacies.

Transferability

You will complete the prerequisite upgrading courses, as well as obtain advanced credit in the Pharmacy Technician diploma program.

Admission Requirements (2011-2012)

Two of the following courses are required as prerequisites to enter the Prep for Pharmacy Technician program. During the prep program, students must complete the remaining two courses of the four that they need to enter the Pharmacy Technician Diploma program.

  • Minimum 60% in English Language Arts 30-1/030-1 or 70% in English Language Arts 30-2/030-2
  • Minimum 60% in Biology 30/030
  • Minimum 60% in Applied Mathematics 30/030 or Pure Mathematics 30/030
  • Minimum 60% in Chemistry 30/030
