NorQuest and Heidelberg unite to
improve competition, efficiencies in print media industry
Leading graphic arts manufacturer
donates software as College links business to new technology
February 27, 2007 – Heidelberg Canada
made a significant donation in computer software today to
NorQuest College in Edmonton. NorQuest acquired just over
$1 million worth of printing software, with the support of
Heidelberg, to launch the College’s Centre for Excellence
in Print Media Communications, linking business with
new technologies.
The Centre aims to conduct applied research
and showcase integrative technologies and products, such as
JDF (Job Definition Format) and VI (Variable Imaging). The
goal is to improve competition, build efficiencies, and spur
new growth in Canada’s print media industry, allowing
Western Canadian companies to access new markets and acquire
skilled labour. "
Nobody else in Western Canada offers this
type of business solution," says Heidelberg Canada President
Richard Armstrong. "For the first time, local print companies
have the opportunity to visit NorQuest, test the latest print
technologies, and receive qualified training to push their
business in exciting, new directions."
"It is by far the biggest industry
partnership NorQuest has ever been involved with," says
president and CEO, Dr. Wayne Shillington. "Heidelberg
has stepped forward at a time when NorQuest is truly ready
and committed to creating new opportunities for students and
employers in the print industry."
The Centre for Excellence in Print Media
Communications at NorQuest College provides students
with a range of quality programming, including a diploma in
Digital Graphics Communications licensed by SAIT Polytechnic
in Calgary. The program covers the entire print industry –
from design concept to the printed product – preparing
students for a career in graphic arts, printing, publishing,
and other print-related industries. At more than 84,000 workers,
print media is the fourth largest manufacturing employer in
Canada.
