Get Stan in a Van on the Road!
Golfers are teeing up for NorQuest College this year for a cause that affects all Albertans - safe and sustainable continuing care. And it starts with education.
This year's goal is to raise $200,000 which will be used towards developing a simulation centre on wheels for rural health care students. We call it Stan in a Van!
Simulation technology has proven to be an effective learning tool for students. In addition to theory, they are able to hone their practical skills and develop communication skills in a safe environment before working with real people. This is especially important when working with the elderly and those who need ongoing care and support.
The need for specialized continuing care is great and will continue to be a challenge for Alberta. There are currently more than 370,000 seniors in our province, a number that is expected to double in the next 20 years. Presently, 19 per cent live in rural areas.
STAN in a Van will be complete with a human simulation mannequin (STAN which stands for Standard Man), video capability so rural students can learn from their actions, and the latest equipment and technology. Working with NorQuest's Centre for Excellence in Continuing Care, STAN in a Van will be able to run scenarios that address the unique and often complicated issues that seniors experience.
There is important work to be done in continuing care. Be part of it - give generously.
