If you want to improve your reading, writing, or math skills at the pre-high school level, the following courses may be of interest to you. You will receive individualized and teacher-directed instruction, allowing you to progress at your own pace. Evening classes are an excellent way to improve your basic skills.

Basic Math

Focus on addition, subtraction, algebra, polynomials, measurement, and geometry. Study whole numbers, general math skills (fractions, decimals, ratio, and proportion), and geometry from Grades 1 to 10. You are tested to find your most appropriate entry level.

Students taking this class will work independently through the modules for the course level that they are taking. An instructor will be available in the classroom to assist students with any questions about the material that they may have.

Reading and Writing Development BEL 1 and 2

Improve your basic skills in reading and writing through vocabulary development, word identification, reading comprehension skills, and sentence and paragraph construction. Learn to read and write up to a Grade 8 level with individualized, group, and computer-assisted instruction. You will be tested to find your most appropriate entry level.

Improve your reading and writing skills as you prepare for ELA 1105, ELA 1104, ELA 2105, READ 9089, or ENGL 9089. Increase your word attack skills, reading speed, research, and analytical skills. Enhance your sentence, paragraph, and essay writing skills using the five-step writing process. Improve your spelling, grammar, and vocabulary. This class prepares you to write and pass the General Equivalency Development (GED) exams. Receive your high school equivalency diploma upon successfully completing all five GED exams. A GED is accepted for entrance into a number of post-secondary, career and trade programs.
