Immigration and Integration Going Forward
Join us for an informative and interactive investigation and discussion of immigration and integration trends and practices with Naomi Alboim. On November 8th we expect a day that will produce new insights and provide participants opportunities to share perspectives on immigration and integration in Alberta and Canada going forward. The day will include presentations, discussions and panels with experts and practitioners designed to investigate the following:
- A contrast and discussion of our provincial and national approaches to immigration and immigrant integration
- A highlighting of programs and initiatives from across Canada that support or make social, workplace, and economic integration successful, efficient, more likely as an outcome
- A discussion and analysis of cases and examples from other jurisdictions that may be useful to the Alberta context
- A discussion around potential collaborative approaches to the development of promising practices going forward

Ms. Naomi Alboim Biography
Naomi Alboim is a fellow, adjunct professor and Chair of the Policy Forum at the School of Policy Studies at Queen's University in Canada, where she has taught graduate courses on immigration policy for the past eleven years. She is also a Senior Fellow at the Maytree Foundation, where she leads its policy work on immigration and refugee issues, and directed its Public Policy Training Institute for Non-Government Organizations.
Ms. Alboim has written extensively on immigration policy, and advises the Canadian federal and provincial governments, universities, colleges, regulatory bodies, and NGO's on a variety of related topics including immigrant labour market integration issues.
Ms. Alboim is the Vice Chair of the Board of the Toronto Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC) and chairs its Intergovernmental Relations Committee. She is also a member of the three person steering committee of ALLIES (Assisting Local Leaders in Immigrant Employment Strategies).
Ms. Alboim is an active public policy consultant, advising governments and NGOs across Canada and abroad in Europe, the Caribbean, Ghana, Vietnam, Indonesia and Kenya.
Previously, Ms. Alboim worked at senior levels in the Canadian federal and Ontario provincial governments for twenty-five years, including eight years as Deputy Minister in three different portfolios. Her areas of responsibility included immigration, human rights, labour market training, workplace standards, culture, sport and recreation, as well as women's, seniors', disability and aboriginal issues.
Ms. Alboim is a recipient of Queen Elizabeth II's Jubilee Gold Medal for Public Service and is a member of the Order of Ontario.
