Funding for Students with Disabilities

Canada Study Grants for Students with Permanent Disabilities

Canada Study Grants provides support to post-secondary students with disabilities. A maximum of $8,000 per academic year is available for full-time students (minimum 40% course load) for exceptional expenses resulting from the disability, such as tutors, specialized transportation, or equipment.

Grants are also available to 'high needs students with permanent disabilities.' Full-time students may qualify for up to $2,000 per year. Part-time students (minimum 20% course load) may receive up to $1,200 per year.

Students must include Schedule 4 which is the form necessary to apply for this grant when they complete an application for financial assistance.

More information on Canada Study Grants may be found at www.canlearn.ca

Disability Related Employment Support Program (DRESP) (Formerly Vocational Rehabilitation of Disabled Person Program [VRDP])

This program provides financial assistance to cover the costs of disability related needs for individual students.

For more information, call the Canada Alberta Service Centre at (780) 427-3722 or check the DRES fact sheet at http://www3.gov.ab.ca/hre/dres/index.asp.

DRES counsellors come to NorQuest on a regular basis to meet with new applicants. Approval and assessment of appropriate services usually requires from 10 to 12 weeks. Requests for specialized equipment may take longer. Students must apply for separate funding to cover tuition and the cost of books.

All new applicants who require support are expected to follow through with their DRES application or their registration may be deferred.
