Indigenous students can access a range of financial supports to help achieve their educational goals. Along with options available to all eligible students such as government student aid, Foundational Learning Assistance funding, emergency bursaries and student awards, there are some additional funding opportunities for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students.
NorQuest scholarships, awards and bursaries
NorQuest College offers awards for enrolled Indigenous students. When you apply for awards, you’ll have the opportunity to identify yourself as an Indigenous student on the awards application form. You’ll automatically be assessed for all awards you qualify for, including those specifically for Indigenous students.
Note: Many Indigenous-specific awards require proof of Indigenous ancestry which may include card identification or a letter from community.

External scholarships, awards and bursaries
You may qualify for funding opportunities offered by other organizations that support Indigenous post-secondary students. Eligibility is set by each organization, and you must apply directly through their application processes to be considered.
Band funding
You may be eligible for financial support from your band for your post-secondary studies or entrance preparation programs such as Academic Upgrading. This support is available if your band has funding through Indigenous Services Canada’s:
- Post-Secondary Student Support Program (PSSSP)
- University and College Entrance Preparation Program (UCEPP)
Applications for tuition sponsorships are administered through each band. Reach out to your local band office to learn about available funding amounts, eligibility criteria and their application process. The Indigenous student advisors at the miyo-pimâtisiwin Centre can support you with additional required documents, such as a Fee Assessment, answer your questions, and help you apply.
Note: As this funding is considered a third-party tuition sponsorship, reviewing the third-party sponsorship processes at NorQuest will help you prepare for next steps.
